Alex Gochenour (2003-2008), Logan-Magnolia High freshman, came oh-so-close to being a Drake Relays champion. (5/6/2008)

Emily Sisson (2004-07), Millard North High sophomore and Josh Kage (2001-08), Papillion-La Vista High junior were named as two of the four outstanding athletes at the Metro Conference Championships in Omaha on April 29th and 30th.  Emily was later featured in the May 2 Omaha World-Herald newspaper. Four Flyers from Western Iowa are competing in the Drake Relays: Tri-Center junior Cody Bahrke (2006-07), Logan-Magnolia freshman Alex Gochenour (2003-2008), Logan-Magnolia freshman Karen Hutson (2007), and Logan-Magnolia senior Carly Olsen (2007).  Cody and Alex were also among the Western Iowa prep notables mentioned in the April 17th World-Herald. Emily Sisson (2004-07), Millard North High sophomore, was named Female Most Outstanding Performer of the Kansas Relays after setting meet records in the girls 3200 and 1600 meter run races. (4/20/2008)

Emily Sisson (2004-07), Millard North High sophomore, broke the state 3200 meter run record at the Arcadia Invitational in Arcadia, California on April 12.  Two weeks earlier, Emily started her sophomore track season by breaking two meet records at the Omaha South Invitational on March 29th.  Emily followed that up the following week by breaking two meet records at the Millard South Invitational on April 4th. Angee Henry (1992-1994) is the new head girls track coach at Bellevue West High School. (3/20/2008)

Natalie Willer (2005-07), University of Nebraska-Lincoln freshman, cleared a season-best 13' 1½" to win the pole vault at the Cornhusker Last Chance meet on Thursday, March 6th. (3/7/2008)

Kym Bennett Kym Bennett (2000-2003), Doane College junior, is ready for the NAIA Track & Field Indoor Nationals.  Two weeks ago, Kym won the 1000 meter run in record time at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in Lincoln on February 23rd. (3/6/2008)

Tri-Center High senior Monte Larsen (2007) and junior Cody Bahrke (2006-07) helped the Trojans beat Nodaway Valley in the Iowa Class 2-A substate final on February 26th, earning the team a berth in the state tournament.  TV coverage (Tri-Center highlights start at 2:00) (2/27/2008)

Millard West High senior Brittany Poole (2002-2005) has signed a letter-of-intent to compete in track & field at Northwest Missouri State University. (2/21/2008)

Mike Cain (1990-1992), sports manager of Endurance Sports at Disney's Wide World in Sports, is engaged to be married to Tina Kauffman of LaGrange, Indiana.  The tentative wedding date is October 4, 2008.  Mike says "she is a lot like Mom, and is obviously certifiably insane to agree to spend forever with me".  Congratulations, Mike! Josh Kage Josh Kage (2001-present), Papillion-La Vista High junior, placed 4th at the Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament in Omaha on February 14th, 15th, and 16th.  A month earlier, Josh was the top Class A heavyweight in Nebraska, moving to the #1 ranking following his Metro Conference Tournament championship. Justin Liedke Justin Liedke (2004-present), a 4th-grader at Rumsey Station Elementary, is on the right track in his young running career. (2/8/2008)

Adam Meyer (2007), Papillion-La Vista South High senior, signed a letter-of-intent to compete in cross country and track & field at Wayne State College. (2/6/2008)

Joey Boro (2003-present), Omaha Westside High senior, has signed a letter-of-intent to high jump at Briar Cliff University. (2/5/2008)

Lance Corporal Ian McShane (2001-2003) of Elkhorn is currently deployed in Saqlawiyah, Iraq with Second Batallion, Twenty-fourth Marine Regiment.  Ian is a mortarman with Echo Company, which is a Marine Corps Reserve infantry unit based in Des Moines, Iowa.  The Second Batallion was activated in September 2007 and deployed to Iraq, with a stopover in Kuwait, in January of 2008.  Their tour is scheduled to end in July of this year.  Ian enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2004 and plans to resume college at UNO when he returns from Iraq. Kym Bennett Kym Bennett (2000-2003), Doane College junior, was named the GPAC Women's Indoor T&F Track Athlete-of-the-Week after winning the mile and 1000 meter runs at the Ward Haylett Invitational on January 12th in Crete. (1/17/2008)

Emily Sisson (2004-present), Millard North High sophomore, was named the Gatorade 2007-08 Nebraska Girls' Cross Country Runner of the Year.  Congratulations, Emily! (1/10/2008)

Natalie Willer (2005-present), University of Nebraska-Lincoln freshman, had a great college debut on January 5th, setting an indoor PR at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nevada. (1/6/2008)

Emily Sisson Emily Sisson (2004-present), Millard North High sophomore, finished 4th at the Foot Locker Cross Country Midwest Regional in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 25th, qualifying her for the National Championships in San Diego on Saturday, December 8th, where she finished 23rd.  Up next is some much-needed rest. Jonel Rossbach Jonel Rossbach (2003), Emporia State University senior, finished 4th at the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships in Joplin, Missouri on Saturday, November 17th.  Earlier, Jonel was named the NCAA Division II South Central Region female athlete of the year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association(11/19/2007)

Kym Bennett Kym Bennett (2000-2003), Doane College junior, finished 26th at the NAIA National Cross Country Championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 17th. (11/19/2007)

Rebekah Topham Rebekah Topham (2006-present), a Griswold home-schooled 5th grader, was honored as an outstanding Iowa amateur athlete at the 44th Annual Lillian Whiting Outstanding Athlete Banquet held on October 28th at the Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines. (11/17/2007)

Ariel Krolikowski (2005-2006), Grand Island High junior, and her Islander volleyball team made the state tournament again this year.  Grand Island beat Lincoln East and top-seeded Millard North on Friday, November 9th to reach the championship match against Papillion-La Vista.  They lost a five-game heartbreaker to the Monarchs, but Ariel did make the All-Tournament Team. Kenny Hoge (2005-present), Bennington High senior, and the Badger football team beat West Point-Beemer 42-6 Monday night.  A week earlier, Kenny scored two touchdowns to help Bennington beat Wisner-Pilger 27-24 in the first round of the playoffs. (11/6/2007)

Jordan Williams (2001-present), Council Bluffs St. Albert senior, helped her Saintes win the Iowa Class 1-A cross country team title in Fort Dodge on Saturday, October 27 -- one day after her 18th birthday. (10/29/2007)

Carly Olsen Carly Olsen (2007-present), Logan-Magnolia High senior, goes for an Iowa state cross country championship in Fort Dodge on Saturday, October 27 -- twenty-six years after her mom won an Iowa state cross country title. (10/26/2007)

Emily Sisson Emily Sisson (2004-present), Millard North High sophomore, repeated as the Class A girls winner at the Nebraska State High School Cross Country Championships in Kearney on Friday, October 19th.  Other Flyer finishers included: Omaha Marian High junior Kelli Budd (2005-present) in 2nd, Papillion-La Vista High senior Brian Real (2003-2005) in 9th, Papillion-La Vista South High junior Ali Gress (2003-2005) in 10th, and Papillion-La Vista High freshman Kristen Schubert (2007-present) in 51st. Emily Sisson (2004-present), Millard North High sophomore, won the Metro Conference cross country meet on Thursday, October 4th.  Omaha Marian junior Kelli Budd (2005-present) was 2nd in the girls race, while Millard West sophomore Jared Kenney (2001-present) and Bellevue West junior Simon Falcon (2002-present) were 7th and 10th, respectively, in the boys race. Kym Bennett Kym Bennett (2000-2003), Doane College junior, was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week as the top GPAC finisher at Doane's Dean White Invitational. (9/27/2007)

Kelli Budd (2005-present), Marian High junior, led the Crusaders to the team title at the UNK High School Cross Country Invitational in Kearney on Monday, September 24th.  Earlier, Kelli overcame a muddy course to win the Creighton Prep Invitational cross country meet on Tuesday, September 18th. Kenny Hoge (2005-present), Bennington High senior, and Kelli Budd (2005-present), Marian High junior, were among the Nebraska Prep Notables in the September 13th World-Herald. (9/14/2007)

Ali Gress Ali Gress (2003-2006), Papillion-La Vista South High junior, won her school's Titan Classic Invitational on Thursday, August 30, leading her cross country team to a first-place finish. (9/7/2007)

New school, same result for Emily Sisson (2004-present), Millard North High sophomore, as she won her first cross country meet of the year. (9/2/2007)

Erica Burson Erica Burson (1999-2001), University of Nebraska-Kearney sophomore, was named MVP of the UNK Fall Classic All-Tournament Team after helping the Lopers win the 4-team tourney August 24th and 25th.  Meanwhile, older brother Luke Burson (2000-2001), Doane College senior, is on his third head football coach in four years. Matt Holcomb and Alex Beideck Matt Holcomb (2005-present) and Alex Beideck (2002-present), both of Ralston, made their local newspaper as National Junior Olympic medalists and National Junior Olympic qualifiers.  They were also among the "Ralston Flyers" who competed at the Nebraska Junior Olympic meet in their own backyard at Ralston High School. Angee Henry (1992-94) was named one of 10 inductees into the Nebraska Black Sports Hall of Fame.  Congratulations, Angee! (8/2/2007)

Rachel Wade Rachel Wade (1997-2000), of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2006, 3½ years after being struck by lightning while lifeguarding.  The Flyers express our deepest condolences to the Wade family.  An obituary appeared in the Muscatine (Iowa) Journal.  On Saturday, June 16, 2007, a memorial was held at Rachel's grave to mark what would have been her 24th birthday.
